We treat our skin and hair differently during dry weather months. Nails too need extra hydration and care when it gets cooler outside. When nails dry out they are more prone to breakage, splitting, and torn cuticles. Here are some easy steps to beautiful nails all fall/winter long.
As with skin, hydrating from the inside out is a great starting point for keeping nails healthy. Drinking plenty of water and eating foods with Omega-3 fatty acids will keep oils flowing.
Give hands a little massage. Warm a small amount of oil in hands – sweet almond works well – and gently massage into backs of hands, palms, fingers, and nails. This not only provides hydration, but improves circulation as well.
Applying hand cream throughout the day and before bed will help too. Don’t forget to focus on nails and cuticles. Skin Lemon Mousse Extra Dry Hand Cream works wonders here and smells delicious. For intensive cuticle care try Skin Healing Calendula Salve--super healing and smells yummy too!
Wearing gloves when out in the cold weather will help to keep nails from drying out. This will protect hands from cold and wind too.
Buffing nails to a shine will keep them smooth and healthy looking. If you opt for color, try Aquarella water-based polish. This polish is made without the harmful DBP, toluene, and formaldehyde of conventional nail polish. Smelted, Vamp, and Sparkling cider are our top choices for the season.
