I absolutely love spending time in the garden. Though mine rarely produces enough to cover all the expenses (born with a cursed black thumb), I still enjoy it immensely. Except for the mosquitoes! They completely devoured my legs last night as I harvested some basil to make fresh pesto. My legs were itching so badly that it was hard to concentrate. I broke down and scratched the one on my ankle and could almost watch it swell and grow. I needed something to help the itch and fast!
Carol and I were discussing the miracle work of montmorillonite clay on bee stings and spider bites the other day, so I decided to give it a try with my bites. I mixed a little of Evan Healy's Green Tea Clay with water in the palm of my hand and dabbed each bite. I then set out to make dinner as the clay worked to draw out the mosquito saliva that caused the itchy reaction.
By the time dinner was ready, I wiped off the clay and noticed that the itching had subsided greatly. Had I been patient, I would have covered each clay spot with a small band-aid and left it on until morning. But even still, this morning all but a few tiny pink marks remain and the only one that even comes close to itching (and only if rubbed a few times) is the one that I scratched on my ankle.
It is important to keep a jar of montmorillonite (also known as bentonite) clay in your cabinet for an occasional bee sting, but now you know how great it is for mosquito bites as well. Forget trying to cover up the problem by just soothing the itch with something that numbs the surface. Drawing out the substance that caused the itch in the first place is the best way to treat the nasty nuisance.
Evan Healy's Green Tea Clay is a mix of montmorillonite and powdered green tea. The powdered green tea is an excellent anti-inflammatory, which also makes it perfect for reducing the swelling of the bite, and for soothing any inflammation in the skin that can cause premature aging. The clay has the ability to absorb toxins, impurities and other contaminants from the skin, as well as excess oils from our faces too.
Who would have thought this little jar could do so much!
