Traveling green is easy. Sort of...Writing this blog from a beautiful cabin in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, I'm struck by the simplicity of it all. Nature spread out before me like a picture book. The clouds are making interesting shadow puppets on the pine-filled slopes; the blue sky is the perfect backdrop to it all.
In this serene setting is a humble log cabin A-frame. Simple comforts make it a wonderful place to stay while visiting nature. The recycle bins are ample enough in the kitchen so we don't attract bears in the night with outdoor trash. A few fans take the place of air conditioning. A small pot bellied gas stove is in the corner in case the temperature drops too far.
But what is THIS in the bathroom?!!
Chemical-ladened soaps, lotions and shampoos?!! Shocked by the boxes and boxes of these hotel-like horrors I find in the armoir, I'm thrilled to have packed all that we need to keep clean after a long day of backwoods hiking. I fully expect to see these little nasties in the hotel bathrooms in the city, but shocked to find them here in the midst of nature.
Thank goodness we have Try Me! sizes at Caren! A good scrub with Sensatia's Volcanic Sand soap or Garden Loofah soap at the end of the day will feel fantastic and Skin's Grapefruit Pom body lotion won't allow me to be tempted paraben-loaded, spice cookie-scented stuff in the bathroom. I can't imagine coating my body in artificial fragrances while hiking the great outdoors.
It's great to know that nature has provided me with more than just recreation and a view this vacation!
