Exfoliate for a Fresher Face!

Face lost its glow? Maybe it's just a build up of dead skin cells. In the summer months we may be more apt to cleanse the sweat and grime more often or even more vigorously, but during the winter months of dry air we moisturize a bit more and cleanse a bit less. Regardless of the season, our skin cells keep right on renewing at roughly the same pace, and if we don't remove the dead cells our skin begins to look dull. Exfoliation is an essential part of any good skincare regimen. It keeps skin looking and feeling healthy and can even reduce breakouts and signs of aging.

Every few weeks new skin cells travel to the surface and are then sloughed off. Not all cells are sloughed away naturally, for a variety of reasons, causing the skin to look dull and flaky. These excess skin cells can also trigger acne due to oil being trapped under the top layer of skin. Regular exfoliation removes dead skin cells and reveals new, healthy skin which results in softness and a brighter complexion.

Mild exfoliators effectively remove dry, dead skin cells with the use of natural particles from plants or seeds. Gentle application of a safe, nontoxic product is key to successful exfoliation. Certain fruit extracts can assist in removing dead surface skin, eliminating the need for harsh scrubbing. Vigorous scrubbing will not only irritate the skin, leading to inflammation and premature aging, but can make it more susceptible to breakouts too. And if skin is irritated or inflamed avoid scrubs altogether.

Exfoliating can be done weekly or as part of a daily cleansing routine depending on your skin type and varying needs. Those with sensitive skin may only require a weekly dose while mature skin needs very gentle, regular exfoliation. As we age cells tend to stay on the surface longer causing the skin to look uneven and lack-luster. Removing these cells and revealing fresh, healthy skin causes skin functions to improve and allows moisturizers and treatments to better do their jobs. Which only makes sense. How can any product work magic on a layer of dead skin?

Adding regular exfoliation to your beauty routine will keep skin soft, healthy and blemish free.
