Small Changes Do Make a Big Difference!

As I continue to do research and stay up with current green news, I am continuously reminded and horrified at what I read. Yes, I realize that I often live in a green bubble, which is why I am even more motivated to spread the word. The oceans are choking with large areas of trash and killing the sea life. There are cities around the world where toxins run in the groundwater because some manufacturing plant has dumped it's chemical waste onto the land and the townspeople are sick. It goes on and on with stories like this. Austim, ADD, ADHD, and diabetes among children is exponentially rising. 1 out 3 children will be diagnosed or labeled with these in the near future. Chemicals are entering their bodies through personal care products, foods and the environment. Which is why I am here to tell you that even small changes in your own life can make a big difference.

When Ellen and I started on our path to live a chemical free life, we didn't overhaul our homes and habits in just one day. Not even in one year. Slowly, we made the changes. These are steps you also can take. Choose:
  • personal care products that are truly chemical free
  • healthier foods - read the ingredient list, not the nutrition box or marketing hype
  • natural cleaning products like baking soda and vinegar
  • stainless steel and cast iron pans - avoid Teflon or aluminum
  • glass over plastic ware
  • stainless steel water bottles that you refill, instead of plastic bottles
  • natural nail polish - if you must have color
  • totes instead of plastic bags - I carry mine everywhere and I don't get the geeky stares anymore
  • to recycle everything you can, compost if possible
  • to grow your own garden (my dream yet to be fulfilled in AZ soil, Ellen does well in Kansas)
Not only are you benefiting your own personal health but the environment as well. Another unforeseen plus is that I now have less clutter and more space in my home. Because it further inspired me to look around and eliminate the unnecessary items I had in my home. I have gone through every cabinet, drawer and closet and asked myself if I really needed that item. I am living a simpler, uncluttered life and feel more alive than ever. So start today and do just one thing to be more green. You'll feel much better!
